For some a visit to Vermont will include a stay in a ski lodge that was established before 1950 on 800 acres of woodlands and gardens.

Over the years, first with an addition of a large game room, then with seven pine paneled rooms with bath and then our "Annex", a farmhouse rebuilt to house 8 large rooms with bath, tv, queen-sized beds and steam baths for added comfort, we have kept up to a unique standard of informal hospitality.

Each season at the Inn at the Mad River Barn is special. First the winter, a roaring fire, dinner at the Inn, the outdoors for all participants from snow shoe trails and back country skiing to nearby downhill skiing at Mad River Glen or Sugarbush ski areas or possibly to visit any of five nearby cross country ski areas.

The spectacular beauty of the Fall foliage is incomparable. Start with a full breakfast and return to cider and apples around the fire.

Summer is the innkeeper's favorite season as the lush gardens come to life, the swimming pool sparkles with cheer in its meadow setting, and golf, tennis, biking, mountain biking, and hiking are just minutes away.

Amenities at the Inn at Mad River Barn

We offer a large range of rooms. Some are large enough for a family of six. We price for the first two in the room and add a small fee (below) for additional persons/children.

Many rooms have queen-sized beds, reading lights, cable TV, a refrigerator and a steambath in the "tub."

New this year is Wireless Internet. We have an exercise room with a Nordic-trak and sauna heated by infra-red lamps. This is fast becoming a must after a strenuous day in the mountains.

We also offer weddings and some business retreats. The gardens were developed to make a perfect setting for the country wedding. We provide 15 rooms for your guests, whatever refreshments you plan and you bring your ideas for food, flowers and music. We can help with the planning as experienced caterers live in the Valley along with florists and photographers to choose from.

We can help you plan your business retreat. We charge approximately $55 per day per person for three meals and private meeting space for your group.
